Delhi Wakes Up to Rain, Severe Waterlogging; More Showers Likely | Check Forecast

New Delhi: Light to moderate intensity rain lashed several parts of Delhi and its adjoining areas, including Noida and Ghaziabad, on Thursday morning.

The downpour led to traffic snarls in many areas, including in Shankar Vihar near Dhaula Kuan. Visuals from Dhaula Kuan,  Delhi Cantonment and near Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib show the impact of the downpour.

Several visuals capturing the plight of officegoers have surfaced wherein vehicles an be seen plying on heavily waterlogged roads, with underpasses almost completely submerged. 

More Rain in Store for Delhi, Noida

According to  the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city is likely to witness rainy affair this entire week. In its latest bulletin, the IMD has forecast that Delhi and its adjoining regions will continue to see widespread rainfall during the week.

Earlier on Wednesday, Delhi and NCR (National Capital Region) experienced incessant rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.  

Following humid conditions, the National Capital Region (NCR) has been experiencing continuous rain since Tuesday, with light to moderate showers lashing the city. 

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation is lying over southeast Uttar Pradesh and an east-west trough runs from it to the circulation over the east central Bay of Bengal, Met has said.

On Wednesday, Delhi's Safdarjung observatory, the city's official weather station, logged a minimum temperature of 23.4 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal while the maximum temperature settled at 34 degrees Celsius. The weather office predicted the temperature of the city to rise marginally from today onwards.

The national capital saw an unprecedented weather pattern in August this year, with the city recording the highest rainfall in the last decade, days before the month even ended. Delhi recorded  269.9 mm of rainfall till August 22, exceeding the previous high recorded in August 2013, according to IMD data.
