Where Will Arvind Kejriwal Stay After Resigning As Delhi CM?
Outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced his resignation today and will reportedly leave his bungalow in the coming days.
New Delhi: Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to resign from his post at 4:30 PM on Tuesday, creating a political stir as he reportedly prepares to vacate his official residence at Civil Lines within the next couple of weeks. Kejriwal's resignation follows his arrest in connection with the Delhi excise policy case; he remains out on bail while he awaits trial.
During a recent meeting with party workers and leaders, Kejriwal announced his decision to step down, emphasizing his intention to return to the "court of the people" to clear his name. "I will not sit on the CM’s seat till you vote for me again," Kejriwal declared.
Last year, Kejriwal faced intense scrutiny after allegations emerged that his administration had overspent significantly on the refurbishment of his residence. Reports initially suggested a cost of Rs 45 crore, but opposition Congress claimed the expenditure could be as high as Rs 171 crore.
Congress spokesperson Ajay Maken criticized Kejriwal for purportedly contradicting his public image of simplicity, contrasting his spending with that of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, whose cabinet reportedly spent far less on residential upgrades over 15 years.
