The 'Shameful' Act

During the ongoing Winter Session, opposition MPs continued to protest over the suspension of over 92 MPs from the Parliament, causing political unrest. They also criticized the BJP-led Centre for allegedly desiring a "Opposition-less Parliament." TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee imitated Rajya Sabha chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar during the suspended MPs' protest at Parliament's Makar Dwar. Around Banerjee, other opposition leaders can be seen laughing and enjoying the mocking act. Dhankhar was prompted to respond to the mimicking, denouncing the Opposition MPs and labelling the act as "shameful."

Strong Reaction From Vice President

Dhankhar said the act was "ridiculous and unacceptable". "Mimicry of the Speaker, imitation of the Chairman, how absurd, embarrassing, and inappropriate," he uttered. "I saw a video on TV, a big leader was making a video, while another MP was copying," pointing at Rahul Gandhi, who was also allegedly spotted taping the entire affair Vice President said, "May he come to his senses."

Opposition MPs were suspended for the remainder of the Winter Session on the grounds of their "misconduct" and disregard for the Chair's instructions. After 92 MPs from different opposition parties were suspended yesterday, the opposition MPs began protesting outside the Parliament building. Now that 49 more MPs have been suspended, the total number of suspended MPs is a record 141.
