Kolkata: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, no stranger to making national headlines, ordered on-duty personnel of Kolkata Police to immediately vacate Raj Bhavan premises.
Bose has planned to convert the Kolkata Police outpost near the North Gate of the Raj Bhavan into a 'Jan Manch' (public platform), confirmed an official. "The governor has directed police officers deployed inside the Raj Bhavan, including the officer-in-charge, to immediately vacate the premises," he added.
Why Guv Barred Police Posting In Raj Bhavan?
The decision to bar Kolkata Police from posting inside the Raj Bhavan premises came days after allegations were made that city police inside the Governor's House didn't allow the victims of post-poll violence to meet Bose.
The Kolkata Police on Thursday barred BJP heavyweight and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari from entering the Raj Bhavan with victims of post-poll violence, citing Section 144 of CrPC, which restricts gathering of crowd outside Raj Bhavan.

Subsequently, Adhikari along with the BJP Legal Cell leaders moved Calcutta High Court and submitted that despite having written permission, police had barred their entry into the Governor’s House.
The court questioned the state authorities whether Bose was under ‘House Arrest’ and gave nod to Adhikari to visit the Raj Bhavan with the victims upon confirmation from the Governor's office.

Adhikari On Sunday, led over 100 ‘victims’ of post-poll violence to the Raj Bhavan on Sunday to meet Governor CV Ananda Bose. At the meeting, the Governor said, “The Calcutta High Court has issued an order. They are surprised that the Governor is seemingly under house arrest, as those who were attacked could not meet him. We will ensure Bengal is free from violence. I pledge in the name of Netaji, Rabindranath, and Swami Vivekananda that I will fight till the end.”
