Kutch: Mumbai, India’s financial capital of India, is also known to be the richest city in the country. But, do you know, the richest village in India and where it is? The richest village in India is located in Gujarat’s Kutch district, which was once hit by a severe earthquake. The village is Madhapar, which is not only the richest in India, but is known to be the ‘richest village in the entire Asia’. Madhapar Village, located on the outskirts of district’s headquarter Bhuj, has no less economic prosperity than any developed city with residents having fixed deposits worth enormously Rs 7,000 crore.
Gujarat, which is one of India's top business destinations, has prosperity not just restricted to the cities, but has spread across villages as well. The population of the Madhapar Village, which is inhabited mostly by the Patel community is around 32,000. The significant feature of the village is that it has unusually as many as 17 public and private banks operating.
One of the reasons behind the prosperity of the village is that most of the families residing in the village are NRI (Non-Resident Indian). These families, who are based in foreign countries, mostly the United States (US), New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and other African and European Countries, reportedly deposit money in crores in Indian currency in the banks operating in the village.
The village, which reportedly has around 20,000 houses, has around 1,200 families living abroad. Even though many villagers live and work abroad, they have kept their roots well connected to their village. As per the claims, they prefer depositing and saving their money in the banks located in their village.
