Amit Shah made the announcement during the first Foundation Day celebration of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre in New Delhi.
Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (14C)
- I4C is a newly established cyber fraud controlling center under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to deal with cybercrime in the country in a coordinated and comprehensive manner.
- The I4C is on a mission of handling matters related to cybercrime for citizens, including improving coordination between various Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and stakeholders.
- The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre is located in New Delhi, India.
Who Are Cyber Commandos?
Just to give you a little overview, I4C is a national-level coordination centre which solely focuses on cybercrime related issues in the country. Here at the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, these cyber commandos will receive training in IT infrastructure security, digital forensics, and crisis response.
The home minister also unveiled ‘Samanvaya portal’ that unify I4C's existing activities:
- Samanvaya platform: A collaborative cybercrime investigation facilitation system, and the Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC). The Samanvaya platform is a web-based module that serves as a one-stop data repository for cybercrime, data sharing, crime mapping, analytics, cooperation, and coordination for all LEAs in the country.
- The CFMC is linked to the 1930 control rooms of the 36 states and Union territories.
Housed within I4C's premises in New Delhi, CMFC aspires to serve as a "war room" or "coordination room" for monitoring high-priority cases involving huge sums of money involved in the cyber fraud.
In 2023, a total of 1,128,256 cybercrime events were reported across India. Uttar Pradesh received the most number of complaints (197,547), while Maharashtra reported the most number of fraud amounting to ₹ 9.9 billion.
