Centre Hikes DA For Its Employees
The total financial impact on the exchequer from both Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) will amount to Rs 9,448.35 crore annually.
According to the announcement, this increase follows the established formula based on the 7th Central Pay Commission's recommendations.
This change will benefit approximately 49.18 lakh central government employees and 64.89 lakh pensioners. The Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief are provided to help adjust the cost of living and safeguard the real value of basic pay and pensions against inflation.
Revisions occur biannually on January 1 and July 1, determined by the average of the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) published by the Labour Bureau. Since this hike takes effect from July 2024, employees will receive arrears for July, August, and September.
