Noida: The much-awaited Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is now expected to be inaugurated in May, according to Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. This marks another delay, as the airport was initially set to open in April, missing its second deadline after the original October 2024 timeline was missed.
The airport is awaiting the granting of its aerodrome license, which is a critical step for flight operations. This license is expected to be issued in May, after which the airport will start with domestic flights. International routes are likely to follow in the months after the launch.
CEO of Noida International Airport (NIAL), Christoph Schnellmann, confirmed that the airport is progressing well toward becoming operational. He mentioned that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is actively working on the air traffic control tower, and the construction of the passenger terminal and other facilities is moving forward.
On Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a meeting to discuss the airport’s progress. The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran and other officials. Though the details of the meeting were not shared publicly, it was expected to finalize the flight schedule and services for the new airport.
While the aerodrome license is a significant milestone, officials have made it clear that the airport is on track for its May launch. With the final stages of construction underway, Noida International Airport aims to become a major hub for both domestic and international flights in the future.
