Heart-Touching moment of baby elephant napping in mother's consoling arms after rescue goes viral

The wild baby elephant, estimated to be four to five months old, was notably discovered off-herd on December 30, 2023.

Viral: The state Environment and Forest Secretary, Supriya Sahu IAS, shared a touching photo of a baby elephant cuddling up in its mother's arms a few days after the animal was reunited with its herd at the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. The tiny calf, contentedly napping in its mother's warm and tender embrace, is seen in the photo shot by the forest field officers.

Supriya Sahu wrote while sharing the picture, "When a picture is worth a million words. The rescued baby elephant after uniting with the mother takes an afternoon nap in her mother's comforting arms before moving again with the big herd. Picture taken by Forest field staff somewhere in Anamalai Tiger reserve who are keeping a watch to ensure their safety." 

Baby Elephant: Lost and Found

The wild baby elephant, estimated to be four to five months old, was notably discovered off-herd on December 30, 2023. The calf was seen wandering aimlessly in search of its mother. A search team was dispatched to locate the herd from which the calf had broken away, and with the use of drones, the herd was located approximately three kilometers distant. The calf was brought to the location safely, and then any traces of human presence were removed by washing and applying dirt on it. The calf was then released near the herd and it was reunited with its mother.

Many expressed their happiness at witnessing the stunning scene when the photo went viral online, evoking strong emotions in those who saw it.
