It is essential to perform the rituals during this time to avoid any inauspicious periods, such as Bhadra Kaal, which must be carefully avoided.

The rituals of Holika Dahan involve lighting a bonfire, which symbolises the destruction of negativity and evil forces. Here are the key rituals associated with Holika Dahan:

  • Families and communities come together to collect materials like wood, dried cow dung cakes, and twigs to construct the bonfire.
  • Offering Puja Samagri, Devotees offer various items to the fire, including Gangajal (holy water), cow dung garlands, unbroken rice (Akshat), flowers, vermilion (Roli), sacred thread (Mauli), jaggery, turmeric, green gram (Moong dal), sugar candies (Batashe), colored powder (Gulal), and wheat ears (Baaliyan).
  • Lighting the Bonfire, The bonfire is lit during the auspicious Muhurat, and devotees gather around it, singing traditional Holi songs and praying for prosperity and happiness.
  • Parikrama (Circling the Fire): Many people walk around the fire, seeking blessings for good health and protection.
