Indian Railways is set to revolutionize travel convenience by rolling out a new QR code payment system, enabling passengers to journey without the need for cash. This initiative is part of a larger effort to modernize and streamline railway services, aiming to make all stations cashless. The move addresses current challenges at ticket counters where the absence of online payment options often leads to inconvenience for passengers without cash.

Leading this charge is the Malda Division of Eastern Railways, which is spearheading the transition to cashless ticketing across all its stations. The new system will utilize dynamic QR code devices at ticket counters. According to Shiv Prasad, Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) of the Malda Division, "the introduction of dynamic QR code devices at ticket counters will significantly ease payment processes." These devices will send payment requests directly to passengers’ mobile phones, allowing for seamless electronic transactions.

The initiative aims to resolve common issues such as disputes over change and to boost operational efficiency by reducing the time spent handling cash. It is anticipated that the new system will particularly benefit younger passengers who favor digital payments and often do not carry cash.
