Mumbai YouTuber Seeks Justice as Private Videos Circulate Online

A 21-year-old YouTuber residing in Mumbai's Bandra has taken legal action, filing a complaint with the police after discovering that intimate videos of him had been posted on social media. The distressing incident unfolded when an unidentified individual allegedly breached the CCTV camera installed in the privacy of his bedroom.

The breach occurred on November 17, but the YouTuber only became aware of the situation on December 9, when the compromising footage gained traction online. The Bandra police have responded promptly, registering a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act, addressing the serious matter of defamation.

In his complaint, the victim highlighted that the CCTV cameras were installed within his residence for personal safety, with one camera specifically placed in his bedroom. “On December 9, a friend called and told him that a video of him changing his clothes had gone viral on social media,” said an officer.

As he reviewed the footage, he realized that the clip originated from the camera in his bedroom, shared by an officer familiar with the case. “He began getting calls from other people informing him about the video. The nude clip was shared across social media and went viral,” said the officer.

The victim asserts that the breach of privacy was intentional, with the culprit accessing the CCTV footage to exploit and defame him. The police are actively investigating the matter, exploring all possible angles to identify the responsible party. “It is suspected that someone known to them is the culprit. However, we are probing all angles,”  confirmed an investigator involved in the case.
