What is the New 'Book Now, Sell Anytime' Feature on Zomato App?

Zomato has introduced a “Book Now, Sell Anytime” feature on its app. This new feature allows customers to purchase tickets and resell them on the app if the tickets are unused.
The feature will be available on the Zomato app starting September 30, beginning with the Zomato Feeding India Concert, which will be headlined by Dua Lipa.
Zomato claims to be the first company to offer such a feature. The company aims to provide greater flexibility and support the live entertainment industry.
Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, announced the feature on the social media platform X.
How does the feature work?
“If their plans change for any reason, users can list their ticket on the Zomato app for a price lower or higher than the original purchase price (capped at 2x the current phase price live on the ticketing platform),” said Zomato Live Entertainment CEO Zeenah Vilcassim.
“The seller will receive the full value of their listed price transferred to their preferred payment method (subject to applicable taxes),” she added.
Once another customer purchases the listed ticket, the original ticket will be cancelled, and a new ticket will be issued and authenticated by Zomato.
The company has implemented safety measures to prevent practices such as touting or unfair pricing. This includes capping the highest price at which tickets can be listed at 2x the current phase price on the Zomato app. If the event is sold out, the cap will be 2x the final phase price. For example, if a customer buys an early-bird ticket for Rs 1,000 and the current phase price is Rs 2,000, the customer can list their ticket for up to Rs 4,000.
This announcement comes just days after Zomato revealed its acquisition of Paytm's entertainment and ticketing business for Rs 2,048 crore, as it looks to expand its presence in the 'going out' segment. The cash transaction was approved by Zomato and Paytm's boards on August 21.
Zomato also plans to launch a separate app for its going-out business called ‘District,’ which will include verticals such as dining out, live events, and movie and event ticketing.
