World Students' Day 2024: World Students' Day is celebrated annually on October 15 in honor of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, known as the "Missile Man of India." This day is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of accessible education and opportunities for students worldwide.

World Students' Day 2024: History

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, a renowned scientist and the 11th President of India, was born on October 15, 1931. He served as the President of India from 2002 to 2007 and played a crucial role in advancing India's space and missile programs. Kalam dedicated over 40 years to working with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO ).

Throughout his life, Dr. Kalam frequently visited schools and colleges, inspiring students to reach their full potential. He emphasized that education is essential for both personal growth and societal development. His remarkable journey from a humble background to becoming a national icon has inspired many individuals.

In recognition of his unwavering dedication to students and education, the United Nations designated October 15 as World Students' Day.

World Students' Day 2024: Significance

World Students' Day serves as a reminder of Dr. Kalam's immense contributions to the field of education. It celebrates the achievements of students globally and encourages them for continuous learning.  This day also reflects Dr. Kalam’s belief that students are the future leaders and changemakers capable of creating a better world.

On July 27, 2015, at the age of 83, he passed away while delivering a lecture to students at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. His sudden death was a great loss to the country, but his legacy continues through the students he inspired and the values he upheld.
