Haridwar: "Our scriptures are not just texts; they are a means to understand the mysteries of the entire creation." These remarks were made by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami during the closing ceremony of the 62nd Akhil Bharatiya Shastrotsav competition held at Patanjali University.
The Chief Minister stated that the foundation of Indian culture and tradition lies in our ancient scriptures, which encompass profound secrets of science, yoga, medicine, mathematics, and philosophy. He emphasized the need to not only preserve the research conducted by Rishis and Sages as a heritage but also to advance it and develop it in a modern context. He noted that just as the profound knowledge of Advaita Vedanta spread throughout India, the mysteries of Sanskrit and scriptures should also be disseminated across the country and globally through this Shastrotsav. He called for practical presentations of the Vedas and scriptures to foster interest and faith in future generations.
During the closing ceremony, CM Dhami mentioned that the state government is taking special steps to promote the eternal and Indian knowledge tradition, aiming to establish ancient Indian knowledge on a global level. He stressed the need to give global recognition to India's rich Vedic knowledge and to integrate it more effectively into the education system. He stated that if we present our ancient knowledge from a scientific perspective, it could prove beneficial for all of humanity.
On this occasion, Swami Ramdev, the Chancellor of Patanjali University, remarked that Sanskrit is not just a language but has the potential to provide leadership in any field worldwide. He emphasized that Sanatan Dharma and ancient Indian scriptures encompass all fields of knowledge. Swami Ramdev described the Akhil Bharatiya Shastrotsav as a confluence of Sanskrit and culture, asserting that all root languages originated from Sanskrit, and we should take pride in this. He called for the promotion of the Sanskrit language and the re-establishment of the Indian knowledge tradition.
Acharya Balakrishna, Vice-Chancellor of Patanjali University, highlighted the significance of Sanskrit as a pride of pilgrimage and culture, emphasizing the importance of ancient Indian scriptures in life. He urged scholars, students, researchers, and followers of the Sanatan tradition from across the country to make continuous efforts to spread the importance of the Vedas and scriptures to every individual.
During the closing ceremony of the Shastrotsav, former Chief Minister and Union Education Minister of Uttarakhand, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', stated that Sanskrit is not a tired language but has the capacity to wave its flag across the world. He noted that all knowledge, science, and technology are encompassed within Sanskrit. He also mentioned the recognition of Uttarakhand as a state language and the potential for the state to represent Sanskrit on a global scale.
On this occasion, Professor Srinivas Varkhedi, Vice-Chancellor of the Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, also shared important thoughts on Sanskrit, scriptures, and the Indian knowledge tradition.
Awards were presented to participants from 30 states and union territories of the country during this Shastrotsav competition. The event was coordinated by Dr. Madhukeshwar Bhatt, and the stage was managed by Dr. Pawan Vyas.
The closing ceremony was attended by Mahamandaleshwar Swami Punyānandgiriji Maharaj, former cabinet minister of Uttarakhand Swami Yatishwaranand Ji Maharaj, Professor Sukant Kumar Senapati, Vice-Chancellor of Shree Somnath Sanskrit University, Gujarat, Professor Prahlad R. Joshi, Vice-Chancellor of Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit University, Assam, Dr. Murli Manohar Pathak, Vice-Chancellor of Shree Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, New Delhi, Professor Sadhvi Devpriya, Chancellor of Patanjali University, Professor Mayank Kumar Agarwal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Patanjali University, along with faculty members, officials from Patanjali University, Haridwar, and the Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, and distinguished scholars and dignitaries from across the country.
