The year 2024 is just around the corner and it seems like it is going to be a treat for all the skywatchers out there. For all those curious, you can expect a thrilling celestial spectacle as two solar eclipses and two lunar eclipses will grace the skies. For those who don’t know, during a solar eclipse, the moon comes in between the sun and earth. On the other hand, during a lunar eclipse, the earth’s shadow falls upon the moon while it aligns with the sun and earth.

Here is all you need to know about the eclipses of 2024:

Solar eclipses

Both of these eclipses will remain invisible in India.

The first solar eclipse of 2024 will be on April 8 and this will be a total solar eclipse. This will commence over the South Pacific ocean and will move through North America, Mexico, and Canada. Along with this, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Costa Rica, Cuba, Aruba, the Cayman Islands, Dominica, and Jamaica.

The second solar eclipse will be in the later part of the year on October 2. This one will be visible in South America’s Argentina and Chile. This will further be accompanied by a partial solar eclipse in South America, North America, Antarctica, Pacific ocean, and the Atlantic ocean.

Lunar eclipses

The first lunar eclipse will be on March 25 and this will be a Penumbral lunar eclipse. This happens when the moon moves through earth’s outer shadow and partially covers the sun’s disk. Observers in Europe, Antarctica, Australia, Africa, North and East Asia, North and South America, the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic, will witness the event.
