As the temperature rises, so does the risk of dry, dehydrated, and flaky skin. Summer season can be especially tough on the face, as increasing heat, humidity, and harmful UV rays from the sun often cause dryness and itchiness. Here are some tips to keep your face hydrated and protected during the hot days.
Drink Plenty of Water: The first and most crucial step to preventing dry skin is staying hydrated. Drinking plenty of water removes toxins from your body, helping to keep your skin healthy and radiant.
Use sunscreen: It is advisable to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and apply it with the two-finger rule to all exposed areas of your body, especially your face and neck. Remember to reapply every two hours or after swimming or sweating.
Exfoliate Regularly: Regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells that can accumulate and cause dryness. However, avoid over-exfoliating, as it can harm your skin. Use a mild exfoliating scrub or a chemical exfoliant once or twice a week to maintain a fresh and smooth complexion.
Moisturize Daily: Applying a moisturiser daily keeps your skin hydrated and prevents dryness. Choose one with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerine, or ceramides. Use it after showering or bathing and reapply as needed during the day.
Take Short, Lukewarm Showers: Hot water removes your skin's natural oils, leading to dryness. To avoid this, take short, lukewarm showers and gently pat your skin dry with a towel instead of rubbing it. This helps retain your skin's natural moisture and prevents dryness.
Wear Protective Clothing: Most important wearing protective clothing, like long-sleeved shirts and wide-brimmed hats, shields your face from the sun's harmful UV rays. Choose lightweight, breathable fabrics to avoid trapping sweat against your skin.
