Gucci's India connect: The Jackie bag's bejeweled embroidery revealed to be crafted in Mumbai

Gucci's legacy has for long boasted of a worldly-wise and aware aesthetic helping sustain and embellish the brand's indelible place in the annals of luxury fashion. Earlier this year, the Italian fashion house announced Alia Bhatt as one of their global house ambassadors, establishing a definitive connect with Indian-ness. A more recent discovery however, has been one of their most prized creation's standout detail, as also having been crafted very much in-house.

The Gucci Jackie Bag has a strong India connect

Gucci's new creative director, Sabato De Sarno's revamped version of the Gucci Jackie Bag was recently showcased in Singapore. The prized possessions, boasting of an immensely long waitlist of those vying to purchase it, were displayed atop slick red pedestals under spotlights accentuating the intricate bling which makes up the crux of the Jackie bag's revamp. 

It has now come to light, that the unmissable embellished embroidery on the bag, has been crafted in Mumbai establishing the India connect. The bag, in all its luxe glory, is to also be carried a specific way - never held, always slung over the shoulder, as elaborated by De Sarno.

How the Gucci Jackie Bag got its iconic name

The brand classic Jackie Bag, was launched back in 1961. Its quirky name however, is to the credit of Jackie Kennedy Onassis who was spotted with the creation casually carried on her arm. One of Gucci's foremost creations, the Jackie Bag accounts for 52% of the brand's total revenue.

Another update about the luxury work of art is that the Spring/Summer 2024 versions of the same will further up the bling tapping into festive cheer with baubles and embellishments, keeping in mind the brand's stellar balance between class and over-the-top pizzaz.
