Maha Navami 2024: Date, Significance, Rituals, And Puja Muhurat
Maha Navami holds great importance in both Shardiya Navratri and Durga Puja, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.
After eight days of vibrant Shardiya Navratri celebrations and four days of Durga Puja festivities, Maha Navami 2024, the heart of these events, will be observed on October 11th, the last day of both festivities.
Significance of Maha Navami 2024
Maha Navami holds great importance in both Shardiya Navratri and Durga Puja, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. This day celebrates Goddess Durga’s triumph over the buffalo demon, Mahishasura.
On this day, the Mahishasuramardini form of Goddess Durga, which means the "Destroyer of Mahishasura," is worshipped. According to Drik Panchang, it was on Maha Navami that Goddess Durga finally defeated the demon, bringing peace and order.
Rituals of Maha Navami 2024
The rituals for Maha Navami can only be performed on the Ashtami Tithi (the eighth lunar day), depending on when the Navami Tithi (the ninth lunar day) begins.
If the Navami Tithi starts before evening on the previous day, the Ashtami and Navami pujas, including the Sandhi Puja (performed during the transition of Ashtami and Navami), should all be done on Ashtami itself.
One of the key rituals on Maha Navami is the Navami Havan (a fire ritual), which is highly beneficial according to Drik Panchang. It is performed after the Navami Puja.
Puja Muhurat of Maha Navami 2024
In 2024, the Navami Tithi will start at 12:06 PM on Friday, October 11 and will end at 10:58 AM on Saturday, October 12. The best time for the Durga sacrifice on Navami is in the afternoon, as per Drik Panchang.
