Constipation has always been a recurring problem in the majority of the population all around the world. The feeling of fullness due to not excreting is unwanted yet unavoidable. It has been linked to many health problems. It occurs when the body absorbs too much of water from the faeces, leading to hard stools which are difficult to pass out. Symptoms of constipation include discomfort in the body, stomach ache, headache and loss of appetite.

Here are five ways to counter constipation and get a lighter body:

1. Drink More Water

Proper hydration is the key to relieving constipation, making water no.1 on the list. Stools harden and become dry as most of the water from them is absorbed in the intestines. Drink plenty of water even if that means several trips to the washroom. The body will be more energetic and constipation would be a thing of the past.

2. Fibre, Fibre, Fibre

Eat a diet high in fibre. These include fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Grains include oats and whole-wheat flour (atta). Avoid refined wheat flour (maida) as much as you can as it worsens constipation. Consume raw vegetables and fruits as they contain water as well as fibre. Skip fruit or vegetable juices as they remove all the fibre and only the liquid is left which doesn't have many nutrients.

3. Keep The Body Active

Exercise naturally helps to push the waste out of the body. Taking a brisk walk or even a round of stretching and yoga has proven to be greatly beneficial in reducing the recurring problem of constipation. Take out just 10-minutes from your routine and reset the body the natural way.

4. Sip On Green Tea

Green tea is equivalent to anti-oxidants. Antioxidants are known to flush out the toxins from the body. It positively affects the gut health and helps treat constipation and diarrhea both!

5. Squat the Indian Way

The western toilets these days have made passing stools harder. Squat the way you do on an Indian toilet and that would significantly alter your constipation conundrums. Sitting in that position puts pressure on the stomach and broadens the anus, making it easier to pass stools.

Additionally, do not suppress when the body signals the need to pass out the stools. Eat a balanced diet with probiotic elements beneficial for the gut health. Many times, routine changes also shock the body leading to constipation. Give your body some time. Keep laxatives as the last resort (even though they won't be needed after these tips!).

Some small steps towards one's health have great effects upon the overall well-being of the body. Win this fight against the body and Poop it out!
