Hangover cures: Tips and tricks to help cope up with your hangover

The winter season has started, and it is commonly considered to be the wedding season in India. And if there is a wedding, there is going to be alcohol. Having drinks with your family and cousins is a common practice to celebrate such auspicious events. But getting a heavy hangover after a great night of drinking is not appreciated by anyone. Diarrhoea, fatigue, headache, nausea, and shaking are some classic symptoms of the condition. A hangover is our body’s way of reminding us about the hazards of having excessive alcohol.  Alcohol is metabolized into acetaldehyde, and it is a substance that is very toxic at high levels. But this can be avoided or even help you not drink till you are intoxicated.

  • Drinking lots of water is the most convenient way to cope up with a heavy hangover. The water helps you to hydrate and push impurities out of your system.  Alcohol completely dehydrates you, and water might be able to help. Drinking plenty of water while drinking is also recommended and it is completely a must.

  • Some say that drinking one or two drinks to ease the symptoms of a hangover works well. It makes you feel tipsy, which makes your head free and light. Drinking does not mean that you should go on an alcohol spree again. Having one or two drinks is more than enough to make you feel tipsy again after a tiring long night. Keep in mind that this solution handles only the symptoms of a hangover and should be used in conjunction with other remedies to tackle the problem itself.

  • Eating ginger is a great remedy to help you with your hangover. Ginger has been used to treat illnesses for centuries as it helps reduce nausea and vomiting. Have some crystallized ginger after a night of drinking. The National Institutes of Health have confirmed that consuming a combination of ginger, tangerine pith, and brown sugar before drinking decreases nausea and vomiting.

  • Many people forget to eat while they are drinking, which is not a good option to go for. Drinking alcohol may lower your blood sugar levels, so feeling tired and experiencing headaches are some symptoms of a hangover. This might be caused due to the brain working without enough of its main fuel. Having a crispy toast and some orange juice is a good way to reset things back to normal.
