Nausea can be caused due to various reasons, most common of them attributing to digestive issues. Some natural remedies such as ginger-infused tea, aromatherapy, and acupuncture may provide relief for some people from nausea. But just as it is with over-the-counter medications, it is important to check with your doctor to make sure any supplements or at-home remedies are safe and do not interact with medications you might be taking. Anti-nausea medicines are commonly used to help relieve it. But unfortunately, such medications can have negative side effects of their own, including drowsiness and headache.

Ginger:

According to Ayurveda, ginger has a long history of being used to treat nausea, stomachaches, and diarrhoea. In China, it has been used to treat a variety of digestive and pain issues for more than 2,000 years. It is not clearly known how ginger works to ease nausea, but it is thought that active components present in the ginger such as gingerol directly affect the digestive and central nervous systems. There are many ways to consume ginger. According to researches, using raw ginger in cooking, drinking it in tea, or eating it the candied form, can prove to be beneficial.

Peppermint:

Peppermint is another traditional remedy that’s been around for many years and known to cure many digestive issues. Both its leaves and its oil are helpful in dealing with indigestion and irritable bowel syndrome. According to a research, the aroma of peppermint oil is found to ease nausea. Peppermint tea is probably the most common way to help cure nausea but it is also available in capsule form for oral intake.

Caution: If you have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), you should avoid the mint.

Lemon:

The smell of citrus fruits especially a fresh slice of lemon is also known to reduce nausea in pregnant women. In a study, it was found that a group of 100 women were instructed to inhale either lemon or essential almond oils as soon as they felt nausea. By the end of the study, it was seen that the group that inhaled lemon help in lowering nausea more than the one who opted for almond oil. Slice a lemon or simply scratching its peel may work in a similar manner. A vial of lemon essential oil may be a practical alternative to use when you are from home.
