On the topic of hair removal, the ultimate question that often pops-up is - should you wax or should you shave your hair? The never-ending ‘waxing vs. shaving’ debate has been around long enough, and we still have almost equal supporters of both techniques. The common doubts that come into one’s mind are ‘is waxing better because it removes the hair from its roots or is shaving better because it serves the purpose with no pain or discomfort’? While there is no definite answer to this question, read ahead to get a better insight on the issue:

Waxing VS Shaving

Ease of Use

Waxing isn’t exactly the most convenient method, with all the hot wax, waxing strips, powders, and lotions. Waxing mostly requires you to either go to a salon or call a professional at your home. On the other hand, all you need for a nice shave is a good, sharp razor and some shaving cream. Shaving isn’t an untidy procedure and can be easily done at home.

Degree of Pain

Of course, no surprise here. Waxing is very painful and torturous, especially when you are new to the process. The pain caused is because the strip is pulled in the complete opposite direction of the hair growth. Shaving, on the other hand, is pain-less. If you exercise the precaution and use any moisturising agent like a shaving cream before you begin with the process, it is assured that the shaving process will follow smoothly.

Hair Regrowth Type

When hair regrowth type is concerned, waxing frequently, over an extended period of time causes the hair to grow back thinner and finer. This is because, during waxing, the hair is pulled out from its root. On the other hand, in the case of shaving, it is assumed that the hair isn’t pulled from the root and therefore grows back to be thicker. However, in reality, because the root of the hair isn’t touched, the hair-growth remains exactly the same.

Suitability to Sensitive Skin

Waxing tends to cause a lot of irritation for those with sensitive skin. In case the wax is too hot, it could cause burn marks on the skin and might also leave red bumps/boils post-waxing. While in the case of shaving, once you have picked up the technique and done it a few times, you can easily avoid any issue of skin irritation.

Even though both waxing and shaving give you smooth and soft skin, shaving has a little edge over waxing. While waxing may be an old and tested formula, shaving ticks most of the positive boxes for unwanted hair removal. However, ultimately, it all boils down to the user's comfort.

Note: It may have different effects on different skin types. Do consult your dermatologist before making a choice. Do what is best suitable for your skin.
