The festival is a heartfelt celebration of marital happiness and familial prosperity

Points of difference from other Teej Festivals 

Unlike other Teej festivals, Kajari Teej focuses on the well-being of husbands and the family’s prosperity. The origins of Kajari Teej are steeped in the mythological love story of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. According to Hindu lore, Goddess Parvati performed rigorous penance to win Lord Shiva’s affection, a testament to enduring love and commitment.

The festival's observance begins early, with women rising before dawn to start their fast and prepare for the day’s rituals. Homes are adorned with colorful rangolis, flowers, and lights, creating a festive atmosphere. Traditional attire adds to the day's splendor, with women dressing in intricate regional garments.

Kajari Teej rituals 

Central to Kajari Teej is the ritual of constructing a clay and cow dung pond in front of homes, filled with raw milk and water. A lamp is placed at the pond’s edge, and offerings are made to Neemdi Mata. Women, both married and unmarried, engage in special prayers and offerings, including fruits, sweets, and flowers, to seek blessings for their husbands and future spouses.
