The metropolitan city, Kolkata, is known for its richness in cultural representation. The city has so much more than just Durga Pooja to offer. Kolkata consists of several tourist places, especially if a person is out for a historical walk. This Bengali city has many historical places one can visit while visiting the city. Here are a few of the many wonderful historical places in Kolkata.

Marble Palace

Marble Palace, situated on the north side of the city, is one of the most visited places in Kolkata. The Palace includes artistic statues, elegant glassware, and paintings of illustrious artists of the British Raj. The royal architecture and unique design of the marble masterpiece attract many visitors. The timings to visit are 10:30 am to 4 pm for visitors.

Tagore’s House

Tagore’s house is one of the most important historical places in India, especially Kolkata. The house is known as Jorasanko Thakur Bari. The place is of high significance because it was the home for India’s most renowned and celebrated writer, Rabindranath Tagore. The house is now converted into a museum that has a collection of a photo gallery, fascinating paintings, and Tagore’s literary works.  An adult has to pay ₹10, and for children, it is just ₹5 for visiting the place. The place is open for visitors from 10 am to 5 pm.

Howrah Bridge

In Kolkata, the first place to visit that comes to mind is Howrah Bridge. For a historical walk in Kolkata, Howrah Bridge is enormous and magnificent and treats the eyes with a beautiful scenic sight of the Hooghly river. In the evening, it is among the best places to visit in Kolkata where a person can hang out with their friends and enjoy the sparkling bridge in the dark.

Mother House

The Mother House was established by Mother Teresa in 1950 as a place of religious assembly. The place is also called as the Missionaries of Charity. The place is filled with nuns who enthusiastically work towards providing free food, clothes, and a place of rest to the poor, drug addicts, physically and mentally challenged individuals. These nuns also run schools to educate street children. A person on a historical walk in Kolkata will not only get to see how cultures submerge in this holy place but also will be able to have a glimpse of the tomb of Mother Teresa alongside an exhibition of her belongings and life’s work.
