The Hunter's Moon will be visible in India at approximately 4:26 AM IST on October 17, 2024. Those wanting to catch the moon at its fullest should plan to step outside late on the night of October 16, as the celestial event will continue to light up the sky until October 18.

As per NASA, the moon will appear full for three days. To get the best views, stargazers are advised to find a spot with clear skies and minimal light pollution.

What is the Hunter Moon?

Named by the Algonquin Native American tribe, the Hunter’s Moon follows the Harvest Moon and historically signified the time for tribes to hunt and store food for the coming winter. This moon also marks the seasonal transition as autumn comes by.

In India, the event coincides with Sharad Purnima, a significant festival celebrated in various regions, known by names such as Kumara Purnima, Kojagari Purnima, and Navanna Purnima.

This harvest festival holds special religious importance, with rituals varying from one part of the country to another.
