Washington DC: NASA Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are finally returning back home along with NASA Astronaut Nick Hague and Russian Cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov aboard SpaceX Crew Dragon Spacecraft.
Tyler Nicklaus ”Nick” Hague is a United States Space Force Colonel and a NASA Astronaut and Aleksandr Vladimirovish Gorbunov is a Russian Cosmonaut and an aerospace engineer. Gorbunov was on his inaugural space flight while it was Hague’s second stay at the International Space Station (ISS), where they both conducted scientific experiments and demonstrated technology. The focus of their Mission was to bring back Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore safely back to Earth.
Expedition 72, as a part of SpaceX Crew-9, was launched on September 28th 2024 with Hague as the Commander and Gorbunov as the Mission Specialist, docked at ISS on 29th September 2024 as a part of the rescue mission for the stranded Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore.
Astronauts Williams and Wilmore were launched in Boeing’s Starliner on June 5, 2024 for its first crewed test flight with International Space Station (ISS) as its destination. Unfortunately, due to Helium leaks and the propulsion system malfunctioning, what was originally planned as an 8 day trip for the two Astronauts, stretched for more than 9 months.
All four Astronauts and Cosmonauts come home today.
