Canadian Matteo Dal-Cin won stage 3 of the men's virtual Tour de France on Saturday, edging out Jake Stewart by a tyre width in a sprint finish, while German Tanja Erath took the women's event in an equally explosive end, over Chloe Dygert and April Tacey.

Ryan Gibbons opened the sprint in the men's race, but dropped back in the field after using most of his energy to claim sprint and climbing points earlier in the stage.

Stewart capitalised, moving ahead with Dal-Cin on his tail and looked to have crossed the line first, but the win went to Dal-Cin in 59:24.

In the women's race, Tacey opened her sprint looking for a second stage win. Erath however pipped the Brit at the line, crossing in one hour 06.24.

The stage - flatter than the opening weekend - was the first to feature in virtual France on the Zwift training platform, featuring renderings of the Pont du Gard aqueduct and Mont-Saint-Michel.
