Indian Badminton duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made the country proud by winning an Asian Games in the men's doubles category in Hangzhou.

Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won yet another gold on the global stage and made the country proud. Satwik-Chirag, who are also the second-ranked pair in the Men's Doubles rankings won the first-ever medal for India in men's doubles at the Asian Games in 41 years. The Indian pair defeated South Korea's Choi Solgyu and Kim Wonho in straight sets by 21-18, 21-16.

  • India finished the Asian Games 2022 with a medals tally of 107 medals which included a total of 28 gold medals 
  • This was the first time India won over 100 medals in the Asian Games
  • India's previous best performance at the Asian Games came in the year 2018 wherein they won a total of 70 medals

Satwik-Chirag bring out some moves after the Asian Games 

After Indian shuttlers Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the first-ever gold, the duo celebrated their win in a playful manner and were seen dancing at the Badminton court. The Indian Badminton team finished the Asian Games 2022 with the best-ever performance and won a men's doubles gold, men's team silver and also a men's singles bronze. Satwik-Chirag will become the number one men's Badminton duo when the Badminton World Federation releases its latest rankings on Tuesday.

Will Satwik-Chirag win the first-ever Badminton gold for India? 

India has never won a gold medal in Badminton at the Olympics stage. Indian shuttler PV Sindhu reached the finals of the 2016 Rio Olympics but was not able to win the gold and lost to Spanish player Carolina Marin. Satwik and Chirag have been of top performing Badminton players for India in the last few years and have the quality to win a gold at the Paris Olympics next year. However, India have extremely well in various sports since the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and repeat the same in the upcoming Olympic games.
