CWG 2022 Highlights, Day 4: Devi, Vijay & Harjinder help increase India's medal tally to 9

Defending champions India qualified for the gold medal match by defeating Nigeria in the semi-finals.

Harjinder Kaur will win the bronze after Sarah Davies lifted 126kg in her second clean & jerk attempt to take the lead.

With her Nigerian rival failing to lift any of her lifts, Harjinder Kaur will win at least a bronze.

Harjinder Kaur's medal hopes seem bleak after she lifted 119kg in her third and final event. While she is currently placed second as things stand, two weightlifters are yet to complete their lifts.

The men's duo of Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Harmeet Desai won their match 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 to give India a 1-0 lead against Nigeria.

Lakshya Sen defeats Loh Kean Yew 21-18, 21-15 to help India win 3-0 and progress to the finals of the mixed team event, thereby guaranteeing the ninth medal for the country.

Suchika Tariyal lost her bronze medal match against Mauritius' Christianne Legentil in the women's 57kg judo event.

Jasleen Singh Saini lost the bronze medal match against Australia's Nathan Katz in the men's 66kg judo event.

With a 21-11, 21-12 win over Jia Min Yeo, PV Sindhu has given India a 2-0 lead against Singapore. If India were to win one more match, they would reach the finals. All eyes on Lakshya Sen now.

The duo of Rankireddy and Shetty defeated the Singaporean duo of Hee and Kwek 21-11, 21-12 in the first match of the mixed team semi-final. 

Vijay Kumar Yadav wins bronze in judo men's 60kg. India's medal tally now rises to 8.

After a win over Priscilla Morand in the semi-finals, Shushila Devi has qualified for the Commonwealth Games 2022 women's 48kg final. She is set to be in action soon.

India's Saurav Ghosal earned a 3-1 (11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 11-3) win against Scotland's Greg Lobban in the men's squash singles quarter-final on Monday. He also earned a spot in the semi-finals.

In the Pool B match against England, Indian hockey player Mandeep Singh scored his second goal of the night in the 22nd minute and handed India a 3-0 lead in the game.

Squash player Saurav Ghosal won the third game against Scotland's Greg Lobban by 11-7 in the ongoing men's singles quarter-final at the Birmingham CWG 2022. Ghosal earlier won the first game by 11-5 and went down in the 2nd game by 8-11. 

India's Mandeep Singh helped the team to double their lead over England, with a incredible goal at the 13th minute of the Pool B match.

The India men's hockey team took a 1-0 lead in the Pool B match against England after Lalit Upadhyay converted a penalty corner in the 2nd minute of the match. 

The men's squash singles quarterfinal match between India's Saurav Ghosal and Greg Labbon of Scotland is currently tied at 1-1. Ghosal started the match by winning the first game by 11-5, before Labbon made a comeback and won the 2nd game 11-8.

India's Ronaldo Laitionjam clocked a timing of 1:02:500 minutes during the men's cycling 1000m time trial and finished 12th over all.

Indian cyclists Triyasha Paul and Sushikala Agashe have finished 3rd and 4th respectively in the heats for the Women's Keirin, First Rund Repechage.

Indian gymnast Ruthuja Nataraj will soon be in action, competing in the Gymnastics- Women's Uneven Bars Final. The event is scheduled to begin at 8:15 PM IST.

India's Joshana Chinappa faced a 3-0 loss to Canada's Hollie Naughton in the quarterfinal of the women's squash singles event. Naughton will now fight for a place in the finals.

Indian cyclist Ronaldo Singh will soon be in action, competing for India in the Men's 1000m Time Trial. The event is scheduled to begin at 8:02 PM IST.

Pranati Nayak is out of contention for a medal in the women's gymnastics vault final. She bagged a total of 12.699 in the event and finished 5th overall.

India's Pranati Nayak is currently placed 2nd in the women's gymnastics finals. She scored 13.633 in her V1 and 11.766 in V2 to bag a total of 12.699.

Cyclist Triyasha Paul earned a 6th place finish in heat 3 of the 1st round of the Women’s Keirin cycling event. She came in behind all of her competitors.

Cyclist Sushikala Agashe missed out on a chance to capitalise on a strong start and finished 6th in the Heat 4 during the Women’s Keirin cycling event.

Cyclists Naman Kapil and Venkappa Kengalagutti are all set to compete in the Men’s 40m points race qualification event. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:52 PM IST.

India’s Sunayna Kuruvilla has entered the plate-semifinals of the women’s singles squash event after earning an 11-3, 11-2, 11-2 win against Chanithma Sinaly of Sri Lanka.

Indian boxer Md. Hussamuddin earned a 5-0 win by a unanimous decision over Bangladesh's Md Salim Hossain in the Round of 16 in the men's 57kg boxing event and sealed his place in the quarter-final. 

Despite losing to Joshua Katz in the quarter-final in the men's 60kg category, Vijay Kumar Yadav remains in contention for a medal after a win over Scotland's Dynlan Munro in Repechage. Meanwhile, Suchika Tariyal is also still in medal contention after a victory over Donne Breytenbach in the women's 57kg repechage

Sushila Devi Likmabam has ensured India a medal in Judo by defeating Priscilla Morand in the semis.

The action will now move to Judo as Shushila Devi Likmabam will be in action shortly. She is set to face Mauritius' Priscilla Morand in the women's 48 kg semi-final.

Sunayna Kuruvilla defeated Sri Lanka’s Chanithma Sinaly 11-3, 11-2,11-2 in the plate quarter-final to progress through to the semis.

Scotland's Finlay Allan beats Jasleen Singh Saini in men's 66kg semi-final.

Amit Panghal has entered the quarterfinals of the Men’s 48kg-51kg (Flyweight) category by beating Namry Berri by a 5-0 unanimous decision.

Joshua Karz of Australia defeated Judoka Vijay Kumar in a close quarter-final clash in men’s 60 kg category.

Chris Murray of England and Kyle Bruce of Australia temporarily took the top two spots in Clean and Jerk event as Ajay Singh took back the top spot by lifting 176kg in his second attempt

The Indian quartet Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani Tirkey entered the final of the Lawn Bowls Women's Fours after beating New Zealand in the semi-final. India won the contest 16-13 after 15 ends. India will face South Africa in the final on Tuesday, August 2. India is confirmed of its first-ever medal in any lawn bowls event at the CWG level.

 Ajay Singh made an incredible start to the Clean and Jerk event lifting 172 kg and taking him to the top spot.

The Indian women's team are edging closer to the finals of Lawn Bowls Women's Fours as they lead New Zealand 10-7 after 10 ends

Ajay Singh lifted the 2021 Commonwealth Championships title with 322kg overall, however he has listed 300kg as his total starting attempt today.

The Indian quartet staged a remarkable comeback to take the lead against New Zealand in Lawn Bowls Women's Fours semi-final.  India now lead New Zealand 7-6 after 8 ends.

The men's table tennis team outclassed Bangladesh 3-0 and stormed into the semi-finals. Nikhat Zareen got off to a winning start defeating Mozambique's Helena Ismail Bagao in the Round of 16 bouts of the Women's 48-50kg (Light Flyweight). Shiva Thapa's CWG 2022 campaign ended after going down 1-4 on points to Scotland's Reese Lynch.

The Indian judo contingent will start its Commonwealth Games campaign from 2:30 PM onwards. Jasleen Singh Saini will face Maxence Cugola of Vanuatu in Men's 66 kg Round of 1, while Vijay Kumar Yadav will battle Winsley Gangaya of Mauritius in Men's 60 kg round of 16 match. In the women's category, Sushila Devi will face Harriet Bonface of Malawi in the Women's 48 kg QFs while Suchika Tariyal will open her campaign against Rita Rabinda of Zambia in Women's 57 kg round of 16 match.

The Indian mixed badminton team will be eyeing for a place in the final when they take on Singapore in the semi-final match tonight. India comfortably sailed through the league stage and dished out a strong performance against South Africa in the quarterfinal, beating them 3-0. The match is scheduled for 10:00 pm start

• Ajay Singh holds the national record in weightlifting with a combined lift of 338kg (148+190). The effort came in Apia, Samoa back in 2019. 
•  Ajay started his sporting journey as a sprinter but switched to weightlifting after joining Army Sports Institute in Pune back in 2010
• The 25-year-old has gone on to claim the Commonwealth Senior Championship gold in 2019 and 2021.
• Earlier in March this year, Singh at the national weightlifting championship in Bhubaneswar edged out Deepak Lather who holds the national record in the snatch by only 1kg to take gold.

The Indian women's fours team will be in action as they are set to face New Zealand in the semifinal of Lawn bowls competition. India’s women’s fours team beat Norfolk Island 17-9 in the quarterfinal encounter.

India will be challenging for two medals in the weightlifting event with Ajay Singh starting the proceeding in the Men's 81kg category, while Harjinder Kaur will be in action in the Women’s 71kg category later in the day. In Men's table tennis event India take on Nigeria in the semi-final. In swimming, para swimmers will also be in action with Niranjan Mukundan and Suash Narayan Jadhav taking part in Men's 50m freestyle S7 Final, while Sajan Prakash will be competing in the Men's 100 M Butterfly Heat 6. In Gymnastics Pranati Nayak will be competing in the finals of the Women's vault event.
