Does Evening Workout Disrupt Sleep? Here’s What The Researchers Say

Physical Activity causes fatigue but it also aids in enhancing the metabolism and makes it faster. An intense workout either in the evening or morning drains out the energy and the body gets into an anabolic state after the session. An intense workout increases the heartbeat and blood flow also it gets the system active. The only thing that comes post-workout are diet and rest. An intense workout increases the heart rate, body temperature and disturbs sleep. However, it is not entirely the case if a different form of exercise routine is used. As per the BMJ Open Sports And Exercise Medicine, Short resistance exercise at regular intervals can improve a person's sleep when performed at 30-minute intervals four hours before sleeping.

Scientific Research To Prove 

To prove the point with authenticity, researchers recruited 30 people aged 18-40. All participants said that they typically have more than five hours of sedentary time at work and two more hours in the evening.

Researchers performed two sessions. In the first session, the people remained seated four hours before sleep and in the second session, they performed 3 minutes of simple resistance exercises. Results show that performing simple resistance exercises led to 27 minutes of additional sleep.

What is the benefit of simple resistance exercises?

Regularly interrupting prolonged sitting with short activities improves cardiometabolic health through multiple mechanisms. Researchers have proved that those short periods of activity provide good sleep by lowering sugar spikes and boosting metabolism. It typically shows that regularly interrupting periods of rest is one of the best processes for getting a night of good sleep. They also asserted their point that indulging in a workout or physical activity doesn't lead anyone to a disturbing night rather it makes the mind and body calm by boosting the metabolism and providing sound sleep. However, they also put forward the use of caffeine. There is no doubt caffeine enhances physical performance and is regarded as the most authentic natural pre-workout but it is also proven that it decreases sleep quality. Getting into any physical activity before sleep without any performance-enhancement supplements or drugs gives good and sound sleep.

Resistance Exercise benefits 

Resistance Exercise does not need any equipment and can be done even while watching TV. It is not that much of a time-consuming activity and can be performed by any one looking to kickstart their athletic journey.
