Cristiano Ronaldo creates history in the Saudi Pro League

Cristiano Ronaldo's latest record-breaking performance in the Saudi Pro League shows that his talent only gets better with age. The Portuguese player, 39, broke the previous record for most goals scored in a season when he scored twice in Al-Nassr's 4-2 victory over Al-Ittihad in Riyadh. With this accomplishment, he has now scored 35 goals this season, breaking the previous record of 34 goals held by Abderrazak Hamdallah, who also played for Al-Nassr in 2019.

Despite a less than stellar start versus Al-Ittihad, Ronaldo ultimately made an impression by scoring shortly before halftime. He deftly used his chest to handle a long ball from Mohammed Al-Fatil before scoring low to give Al-Nassr the lead.

In the 69th minute, he scored his second goal after Marcelo Brozovic's corner. Five minutes later, Ronaldo was replaced, to a standing ovation from the home crowd. Ronaldo shared a picture of himself on social media to commemorate the achievement, writing, “I don't follow records, the records follow me.”

Ronaldo also created history by being the first football player to lead a league in scoring in four separate seasons. In addition to becoming the best scorer in Italy's Serie A while playing for Juventus, he has won the Golden Boot in the Premier League once and the Spanish league three times.
