Cristiano Ronaldo could be the subject of a severe punishment in Iran

Ronaldo signed for Al-Nassr at the start of this year following the mutual termination of his contract with Manchester United. The forward has reportedly been sentenced to 99 lashes in Iran if sources are to be believed. Al Nassr recently visited Iran as they faced the Iranian side Persepolis in an AFC Champions League group stage match.

The Saudi Arabia side did triumph with a 2-0 scoreline but it seems Ronaldo landed himself in a major trouble. During the tour, Ronaldo met with Fatemah Hamami who presented him with some paintings which she drew with his feet. Ronaldo also acknowledged the gift and in return he gave her a signed jersey.

Ronaldo also hugged and kissed on her cheek. According to Iran laws, touching an unmarried woman could be dealt as an adultery. A number of Iranian lawyers have reportedly reported the incident and Ronaldo has been subjected to 99 lashes.

But Ronaldo will only face the punishment if he ever visits Iran which is very unlikely. As per Marca, he could be forgiven if he shows remorse for his act.

Ronaldo has been in brilliant form for Al Nassr having guided the side to the Arab Club Champions Cup title. Al Nassr also are in contention for a Saudi Pro League title as they are currently third in the points table. When it comes to the international scene, Portugal are scheduled to face Slovakia in the European Qualifiers and Ronaldo's side could ensure their path to the Euro 2024 with a win.
