In a closely contested friendly match in preparation for UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany, Portugal faced Croatia and suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat. The Croatian team took an early lead with a Luka Modrić penalty in the 8th minute, but Portugal responded strongly at the start of the second half with a goal from Diogo Jota in the 48th minute. However, Croatia sealed the win with a goal from Ante Budimir in the 56th minute. Both teams showcased their talents, with Croatia edging the match with a display of clinical finishing.

Jose Mourinho opines on how Cristiano Ronaldo’s Euro 2024 with Portugal will be

Manager Jose Mourinho of Fenerbahce projects Portugal's top striker Cristiano Ronaldo to have a prolific Euro 2024 campaign. The 39-year-old attacker just joined the national team following a strong club year.

Remarkably given his age, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored 44 goals in 45 games for Al-Nassr in all competitions. Even with his outstanding play—which included a Saudi Pro League record 35 goals—Al-Nassr completed the season second to the unbeaten Al-Hilal.

Ronaldo and his Portugal teammates are now focusing on their national team duties, hoping to win their second European Championship after their historic triumph in France eight years ago. Speaking on Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Mourinho said:

"He will score his goals, and I don't think he will leave the Euros without goals,"

With his latest appointment as manager of Turkish giants Fenerbahce, Jose Mourinho has managed outside of a top-5 European league since leaving Porto for Chelsea in 2004. Similar to this, Cristiano Ronaldo left European football after twenty years and in December 2022 signed a free move with Saudi Pro League giants Al-Nassr.

Given his outstanding club form, Ronaldo wants to perform at what might be his last European Championship. Portugal is in Group F of the competition, together with Turkey, Georgia, and the Czech Republic. He previously led Portugal to the championship in Euro 2016, where they defeated France in the final.  Given the fact Ronaldo has not shown any signs of slowing down and scoring 40+ goals this season, he will be a star player to watch.
