In the 35th minute, Lisandro Martínez of Argentina scored the first goal; however, Kevin Rodríguez of Ecuador levelled in stoppage time. Ecuador was ultimately defeated by Argentina's team, who displayed composure and perseverance in the face of fierce opposition. Argentina proved they could play at the highest level in the Copa America by winning a hotly contested match with eight shots, two of which were on target.
