'It was too much': Mbappe slams Milan fans for abusing Donnarumma during Champions League match

AC Milan registered a historic 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. The Italian side belted a brilliant display as they blew away the Group F open. Milan's victory means they are now just one point adrift of PSG, who remain second with six points.

Kylian Mbappe defended Gianluigi Donnarumma after a hostile welcome At San Siro

Milan Skriniar opened the scoring for the visitors but Milan came out roaring with goals from Rafale Leao and Olivier Giroud. But the match hogged the limelight as once Milan's prodigal son Gianluigi Donnarumma came back at the San Siro for the first time since leaving PSG. But he was welcomed with hostility as Milan supporters threw fake dollars at him during the match.

Later, Kylian Mbappe opened up as he admitted the atmosphere wasn't right for Donnarumma but football is being played like this currently. During a post-match interaction with TeleLombardia, the French forward said:

“There was a lot of noise and they gave Gigio quite a difficult reception. I think it was a bit too much, but there you go, that’s football nowadays. The fans do what they want, we can’t know what they feel inside. We protected Gigio as much as we could, and we feel sorry for him this evening.”

Gianluigi Donnarumma rejected a contract extension from AC Milan

Donnarumma came through the Milan ranks and played more than 250 games for the Rossoneri before joining PSG in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer. He rejected a new Milan proposal reportedly worth £130,000 per week and went on to pen a lucrative contract reportedly to the tune of £10 million per year.
