Croatia's greatest ever player and national team captain in Luka Modric was left heartbroken at the fulltime whistle after Albania scored a 95th minute equaliser against Croatia in their Euro 2024 Group B encounter.
Croatia were leading 2-1 with just two minutes remaining in the game squandered their lead as they were unable to mark Klaus Gjasula of Albani who scored the equaliser and sent Croatia on the brink of a shock early exit in the tournament.
Luka Modric could potentially be playing his final international tournament with Croatia at the Euro 2024 and as things stand, things don't look favourable for his team. After their 3-0 defeat against Spain, it was important for Croatia to seal the victory against Albania.
It started in calamitous fashion for Croatia as they were 1-0 behind inside the first 11 minutes. Chances came and went begging for Croatia but a late surge meant that they equalised through Andrej Kramaric in the 74th minute and went ahead in the 76th minute through a Gjasula own goal.
However, Gjasula's 95th minute equaliser meant that Croatia are now on the brink of an exit. As soon as the final whistle went Luka Modric was stunned and he went down on the ground absolutely heartbroken with the result.
The draw means that Croatia are bottom of Group B after their matchday two fixture with only one point and a goal difference of -3. They will need to win their final game against Italy and hope that Spain beat both Itlay and Albania to guarantee them a place into the next round. Things look bleak for Croatia and Luka Modric's potential last dance can have an abrupt ending.
