Subroto Cup: AIFF partnership to help young footballers to play for ISL teams

The esteemed Subroto Cup International Football Tournament is returning this time as its 62nd edition will kickoff on 19th September. Following the successful completion of the Durand Cup which was conducted by the Indian Armed Forces recently, there should be enough excitement for this inter-school football tournament. The curtain raiser of this prestigious event was launched at at the Akash Officer’s Mess on Tuesday.

Subroto Cup is back in a brand new manner

109 school teams will be participating in this tournament which will be a 180 matches affair. Named after former Air Chief Marshall, Subroto Mukerjee the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament is solely hosted by the Indian Air Force. For the first time, Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society, the organiser of the tournament entered into a partnership with the All India Football Federation and the team of the tournament will get a chance to represent in various tournaments.

ISL and IWL clubs could pick up players from Subroto Cup

The young and budding footballers wil also be registred in AIFF's centralized registration system and teams from the Indian Super League and Indian Women's League will be able to scout them in a proper way.

While the Durand Cup saw many celebrities and footballers Subroto Cup is unlikely to see that kind of participation.  Air Marshal R.K. Anand admitted they invited Bhaichung Bhutia last time but he was unable to attend the event. " Last year we tried to get Bhaichung Bhutia. He came but due to the shortage of time he couldn't be available in the stadiums. This time also we are trying to get as many as possible. Though we couldn't get footballers of repute last time but we have many international sports persons of international repute. It's a good suggestion. We will try to follow it from next time."
