Helmut Marko Opens Up On The Reason Why Adrian Newey Left Red Bull To Go To Aston Martin
Helmut Marko recently opened up on the reasons as to why Adrian Newey left Red Bull and joined Aston Martin.
A few months ago the Formula One world was left in shock when F1 design legend Adrian Newey announced his departure from Red Bull. Following his decision there was a lot of speculation regarding where the Englishman would go. The early rumors pointed towards Newey joining Ferrari. A few weeks ago the rumors and speculation finally came to an end when Newey announced he was joining Aston Martin F1 team. Now Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has revealed the reason why Newey decided to leave Red Bull and join Aston Martin.
Why Newey Joined Aston Martin And Left Red Bull?
Helmut Marko recently revealed why he feels Adrian Newey left Red Bull to join Aston Martin.
“Of course, with the death of Dietrich Mateschitz, a certain change has taken place. He was basically the only leader. He made quick decisions. He was a charismatic entrepreneur who also had a lot of foresight and was willing to take risks with the racing team.
“And all of that, of course, now… The company and everything else has to be set up differently, because you can’t find another individual like that and he can’t be replaced by just one person. That can also be part of the change. I think that was the main reason for Newey’s decision to look for a new challenge,” said Helmut Marko giving insight into the reasons for Newey leaving the team.
Helmut Marko Perplexed At The Money Being Offered By Aston Martin
Helmut Marko also spoke about how the amount of money being offered by Aston Martin to Newey and the other joinees has left him perplexed.
“What leaves me a little perplexed are the figures that are offered. We are always struggling with the cost limit. And these employees often receive double or even higher offers. That means we couldn’t keep some of them.
“Newey was with us for 19 years, Wheatley for 17. They were part of the team, part of the group and part of the club. They were part of the team, part of our success. That hurts, but if they leave for financial reasons, for career reasons, because you can’t keep up with the offers, then that’s the way it goes,” added Helmut Marko.
