India, in particular, has been showcasing an all-out performance and has already surpassed the Tokyo Para Games' medal count. The Indian contingent has been unstoppable and golds have been coming in. India's latest gold medal has been secured by Dharambir in the men’s club throw F51 event at the 2024 Paralympics. Let's take a look at Dharambir's journey.

Discovering Paralympic Gold Medalist Dharambir: His Journey to Passion in Para Sports

Dharambir is from Sonipat, Haryana, and his life changed dramatically when he misjudged the depth of the water while diving into a canal in his village. He crashed into the underlying rocks, and the tragic event caused paralysis from his waist down. Dharambir's life was significantly altered after the traumatic incident. But in 2014, Dharambir discovered para-sports, which opened up new opportunities for him. He started training in club throws under the guidance of Amit Kumar Saroha, a fellow para-athlete with a similar condition.

Some of Dharambir's notable achievements include the silver medal win at the 2018 Asian Para Games. He clinched a silver again at the 2022 Asian Para Games and then won a bronze medal at the 2024 World Para Athletics Championship. Now, Dharambir can add another achievement after he won the Gold medal with the best throw of 34.92m. He set a new Area Record (Asian) in the process.

In addition to receiving financial aid through the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), Dharambir has received significant government support for competition, training, and equipment.
