Paralympics 2024 Day 9 Highlights: Praveen Kumar In Action As Gold Medal Match Underway

India have broken their previous best gold medal tally as at the Tokyo Olympics, India had 5 gold medals and they have broken this by winning 6 gold medals in Paris.

Kasthuri Rajamani bows out as she finished 8th with a best lift of 106kg.

India's 40yr old Kasthuri Rajamani lifts 106kg on her second attempt.

Praveen Kumar about his gold medal winning jump said, "Before I took off for the 2.08m jump that fetched me the gold medal, I closed my eyes and saw my parents and coach urging me to go for the record. I thought they had always wanted me to win the gold here."

The Para-powerlifting event featuring India's Kasthuri Rajamani will begin at 8:30pm.

With the win of Praveen Kumar, it marked India's 6th gold medal at the Paris Paralympics.

India has picked Harvinder Singh and Preeti Pal to be the flagbearers for the country at the closing ceremony.

Dilip Gavit finished 3rd in the Men's 400m T57 Heat with his season best timing of 49.54s to book his place in the finals. 

In the #ParaCanoe Women's Singles 200m VL2 Heats, Prachi Yadav progresses to the Semi-Finals with a commendable 4th place finish in Heat 1, achieving a time of 1:06.83. 

In the #ParaAthletics Women's 200m T12 Round 1 Heat 5, Simran Sharma excelled with a top finish, clocking 25.41 seconds, surpassing competitors from Venezuela and Italy. She secures a spot in the semi-finals. 

Yash Kumar advances to ParaCanoe KL1 200m Semi-finals, finishing 6th in the heats with a time of 1:03.27.

Team India will feature in multiple final events, with athletics in prime focus. The Men's javelin, high jump and shot put will be in play while the female para-athletes will be in action at javelin as well. Other disciplines like para powerlifting and para canoe events will also take place today. Para-athletes like Dipesh Kumar, Praveen Kumar, Soman Rana and Hokato Hotozhe Sema are some of India's biggest hopes On Day nine.

Para Cane will also be in play with Yash Kumar, Prachi Yadav and Pooja Ojha taking part in Heat 1. Ojha will be in KL1 Heats.

The Paralympics will conclude in two days, but India still has a chance for more medals. Following Kapil Parmar's bronze in Judo, hopes remain high. India is currently ranked 16th with a total of 25 medals: five gold, nine silver, and eleven bronze.
