Paris Olympics: Will the Track and field athletes shine? How have the stars' progress been?
The Indian contingent has been gradually rising in terms of the track and field section as notable stars have made significant progress over the years. Expectations from this category will remain higher as athletes like Jyothi Yarraji, Avinash Sable, and Tajinderpal Singh Toor have been showcasing a lot of progress. Sable is coming off after breaking the national record in Steeplechase, and he could pose a tough challenge to the opposition athletes.
But the pressure will be on Neeraj Chopra as he will be the defending champion this year in the men's javelin throw category. Chopra excelled in the Tokyo Games after his 87.58m throw helped him clinch a gold medal, making him the second individual to bag a gold in singles competition after shooter Abhinav Bindra. Neeraj will be gearing up for the challenge this year. At least one gold can be expected from the track and field category.
