Tokyo Olympics 2020 LIVE Updates, Day 1: Japan's Naomi Osaka lights the Olympic Cauldron

IOC President Bach invites His Majesty, the Emperor of Japan, to declare open the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020.

Arisa Tsubata was depicted as the lone woman on the treadmill during the opening ceremony. Olympics dedicates it to athletes who trained in isolation due to COVID. 

Japanese singer-songwriter MISIA performs a beautiful rendition of the Japanese national anthem - Kimigayo.

Dancers tied together with red ribbons perform an elaborate dance at the centre of the stadium, portraying the intricate workings of the human body. The main stage for the ceremony, designed by Yohei Taneda, represents the sun.

With the Tokyo Olympics ceremony set to begin at 4:30 PM (IST), Sports personalities like Yogeshwar Dutt, Karnam Malleswari join Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur to witness the start of the mega-event. 

With almost 40 minutes to go for the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony, France's astronaut  Thomas Pesquet sent his special greetings to participating athletes from International Space Station.

Meanwhile, Deepika Kumari (663) and Pravin Jadhav (656) finish with a total score of 1319 to occupy the ninth position. They will now be teaming up in the mixed archery event.

 Pravin Jadhav finishes at 31st position with 656 points while his compatriots Atanu Das with 653 points has finished at 31st and  Tarundeep Rai finished at 37th place with 652 points respectively.

Atanu Das has slipped down to 31st position with 52 points while Pravin Jadhav drops down to 28th with 53 points. Meanwhile, Tarundeep Rai stays firm at 38th.

Atanu Das has yet again climbed up to the 28th position with 56 points in the fourth set. Pravin Jadhav also with 56 points, moves up to the 26th position, and Tarundeep Rai is at 38th place.

Russian archer Svetlana Gomboeva lost consciousness during a competition at the Tokyo Olympics in intense heat Friday.

Gomboeva collapsed shortly after completing the qualifying round and was attended by medical staff.

Just after overtaking Pravin Jadhav, Atanu Das has slipped down to the 30th position after 50 points in the third set. Jadhav climbs up to the 27th spot and Tarundeep Rai climbs four places to 37th.

Atanu Das has finally overtaken Pravin Jadhav by picking up 56 points in the eighth round to move up to the 26th spot with 440 points whereas, Jadhav has slipped down to the 30th position with 54 points. Meanwhile, Tarundeep Rai is at the 41st place.

Coming back to the India Mixed Team in Archery, they currently occupy the fifth spot with a score of 992 (Deepika Kumari - 663 + Pravin Jadhav - 329).

Meanwhile, the fourth, third, and second places are occupied by South Korea, Mexico, and, the United States respectively.

As the second half gets underway, Atanu Das has climbed three places to the 28th position whereas, Pravin Jadhav is at the 27th. The duo has shot 55 points each. Their compatriot Tarundeep Rai on the other hand is at 45th place.

Meanwhile, tennis sensation Naomi Osaka's opening match in the Olympic tennis tournament has been pushed back from Saturday to Sunday.

17-year-old Kim Je Deok., who is also the youngest archer at Tokyo Olympics 2020 is on top after the first half.

Atanu Das who was at the 29th position has now slipped down two places to 31 at the end of the first half. Meanwhile, his compatriot Pravin Jadhav is now at the 30th position as both of them have as both are tied at 329 points.

Tarundeep Rai on the other hand  is at 45th position with 323 points.

Pravin Jadhav has now made a significant impact for India in the ongoing Qualifying round of the Men's Archery as he now jumps to the 25th position while Atanu Das stays firm at 29th position. Tarundeep Rai  has also succeeded in moving up a few places as he is now at the 39th position.

After being postponed by a year due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Tokyo 2020 is just a couple of days away. Overall the Tokyo 2020 games will see the participation of around 11,000 athletes from 206 countries in 33 sports. The Indian contingent will also be the biggest this year as 119 athletes are set to compete in a variety of sports in Japan. For India 6-time world champion boxer MC Mary Kom and men's hockey team skipper Manpreet Singh will be India's flag bearers at the Tokyo 2020 opening ceremony. Wrestler Bajrang Punia will be the flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 games on August 8.

Tokyo Olympics 2020: How to Watch Opening Ceremony LIVE in India 

Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony will be held at the National Stadium. Viewers in India who want to catch the Tokyo Olympics 2020 opening ceremony can watch the coverage from 4:30 pm IST on 23rd July. Sony Sports Network will broadcast all events of the Tokyo 2020. Sony TEN 1 and Sony TEN 2 will feature English commentary while Sony TEN 3 will have Hindi commentary. The coverage of the games will also be available on the network’s streaming platform SonyLIV.

'Moving forward' is the official theme of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 

The Tokyo Olympics 2020 Opening Ceremony will take the words "United by Emotion" as the theme for the global event. According to the Olympic website "In the Opening Ceremony, we will aspire to reaffirm the role of sport and the value of the Olympic Games, to express our gratitude and admiration for the efforts we all made together over the past year, and also to bring a sense of hope for the future". It further said, "We hope it will be an experience that conveys how we all have the ability to celebrate differences, to empathise, and to live side by side with compassion for one another."

Atanu Das who was at the 11th position just moments ago has now slipped down 18 places to  29th with 52 points. Meanwhile, Tarundeep Rai has dropped down to 48th place and well but, Pravin Jadhav has climbed up to reach 30th place.

Atanu Das has staged a good comeback as he is now in the 11th position with 56 points whereas, Tarundeep Rai is at the 45th position with 52 points and Pravin Jadhav is at the 35th position with 54 points respectively.

Atanu Das who was placed at the fifth position has now slipped down to the 14th position with just 54 points in the second set. Meanwhile, Tarundeep Rai  and Pravin Jadhav are currently at 34th & 38th positions respectively.

Atanu to start on 20A, whereas his fellow Indian participants Pravin Jadhav and Tarundeep Rai will be starting at 22A & 24A respectively.

Atanu Das is off to a flier with 58 points and is at the fifth position as of now. whereas, Tarundeep Rai 31st (55) and Pravin Jadhav is placed at 40th (54) respectively.
