The Rock Reveals Reason Behind WWE Cancelling His Planned Match With Roman Reigns At WrestleMania 40

WrestleMania XL aka WrestleMania 40 was a huge success for WWE. Touted to be as one of the biggest Manias of all time, WrestleMania XL was nothing short of an emotional rollercoaster ride for the fans of the industry. The event was marketed and built around The Bloodline locking horns with Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins but a major chunk of the fans also wanted 'The American Nightmare' Rhodes to complete his story.

The Rock vs Roman Reigns, two cousins bounded by blood and a rich wrestling history was a dream match for all the wrestling fans. This was a match that the WWE had tried to build for sometime and they finally found a way to assemble all the pieces of the puzzle to make this match a really. the match was already a done deal for WrestleMania 39, but things at the Rock's end did not workout. Cody won the Rumble and earned his right to pick his opponent for the main event of mania. But he ended up surprising everybody when he invited The Rock to take on his arch-rival, the Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns. This did not go down very well with the fans of wrestling who started the 'We Want Cody' revolution and that's when Dwayne Johnson, one of the board members of TKO decided to give the fans what they wanted.

In the WrestleMania XL Behind The Curtains Documentary, The Rock Said:

The power always goes, as it should to the people and they start voicing their concerns. I had a call with Triple H and Nick Khan and told them to truly take in what the fans were saying. We could have trucked through it and get on with the Rock vs Roman Reigns match but my gut said that I don't like to upset the fans even it is a small segment of it.

The Tribal Chief after losing his WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes has stayed away from the limelight and there is complete silence on his return.
