SlackStatus account on X retires: Slack has announced the retirement of its @SlackStatus account on X, which was previously used to provide updates about issues and outages on the platform. Kevin Albers, VP of Customer Experience at Slack, explained that this decision was made to centralise incident communications and allocate resources more efficiently, focusing on the tools most widely used by customers.
The @SlackStatus account had been a valuable source for notifications when Slack was investigating problems. Moving forward, users are encouraged to monitor Slack's main status page for updates. Additionally, Slack's main account, @SlackHQ, will handle questions related to incidents. Users can also receive alerts by subscribing to Slack's RSS and Atom feeds.
Other companies reducing investments too
This move by Slack is in line with other companies that have reduced their presence and investment on social media platforms like X.
For instance, American Express made its @AskAmex account private and informed customers of its inactivity starting from August 1st. Air France also ceased providing customer service via Twitter direct messages, citing changes in Twitter's conditions, possibly referring to new API pricing tiers introduced earlier this year.
