Apple Intelligence update: Apple will roll out its generative AI-based features in the form of Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.1 update next month. Ahead of the iOS 18.1 roll out, Apple has detailed just how much space iPhone users will have to free up in order to use all the Apple Intelligence-powered features. The company has updated its support document to reflect that all supported iPhone models will require at least 4GB of storage space in order to use Apple Intelligence-based features.

"iPhone devices need 4GB of storage," Apple wrote in its support page for Apple Intelligence adding that the 'storage requirements for on-device Apple Intelligence models will increase as more features roll out'.

This means that 4GB is just the starting point of the storage space iPhone users will have to free up for accessing on-device Apple Intelligence. It will be on top of the storage space required by the iOS 18.1 update. This storage requirement, which includes both iOS updates and Apple Intelligence updates, will only go up as newer updates arrive in future.

Notably, while Apple has shared storage requirement for Apple Intelligence on iPhones, it hasn't shared the same for iPads and Macs. Both these devices will get Apple Intelligence update with the roll out of iPadOS 18.1 and MacOS 15.1 alongside iOS 18.1 next month. It is possible that Apple shares these details closer to the roll out date.

How to get Apple Intelligence on iPhone

Step 1: Download iOS 18.1 on iPhone.

Step 2: Open the Settings app on iPhone.

Step 3: Scroll down and tap ' Apple Intelligence & Siri' option.

Step 4: Tap the option that says, 'Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist'.

Apple will send a notification as soon as Apple Intelligence is ready for use on the iPhone.
