ChatGPT app: After macOS, OpenAI launches dedicated app for Windows PCs

OpenAI has introduced a dedicated ChatGPT app for Windows users. The launch of the ChatGPT app for Windows follows the launch of a similar app for macOS.

ChatGPT app for Windows: OpenAI today announced that it has launched a dedicated ChatGPT app for Windows PC users. With this, ChatGPT users will be able to access the company's generative artificial intelligence (AI)-based platforms on Windows 10 and Windows 11-powered personal computers.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the company confirmed that, Windows PC owners can download an early version of the app from the Microsoft. It also said that it will launch a full version of the experience, possibly with more features, to all ChatGPT users later this year.

ChatGPT app for Windows: Availability

But there is catch. Not all ChatGPT users can access and use the early version of the app on their Windows PCs. OpenAI has confirmed that only the paying customers with ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Team and ChatGPT Edu subscriptions can access the ChatGPT Windows app and all its features yet. Additionally, the app can only be downloaded on Windows PCs running Windows 10 version 17763.0 or newer OS versions.

ChatGPT app for Windows: Top features

As far as the features are concerned, the ChatGPT app on Windows will let users upload files to get specific information or summary of the document, answer various queries, get suggestions on various topics, search for information, capture screenshots, share images to get answer to related queries and create images and personalised greeting card with DALL-E, to name a few.

In addition to this, OpenAI's ChatGPT app also supports access to keyboard shortcuts such as 'Alt + Space' for faster access to ChatGPT, and support for companion window on Windows PCs among others.

It is worth noting that the development comes nearly four months after the company rolled out its dedicated app for macOS-powered Apple PCs with Apple Silicon in the core.
