OpenAI rolls out Advanced Voice Mode to ChatGPT Plus, Team users: Top features, availability

OpenAI Advanced Voice Mode: OpenAI had first announced the Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT in July this year. However, at the time, this feature was available to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users only. Today the company has announced that it is rolling out the Advanced Voice Mode to all ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Team users in the ChatGPT app across the globe.

"Advanced Voice is rolling out to all Plus and Team users in the ChatGPT app over the course of the week," OpenAI wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

"While you’ve been patiently waiting, we’ve added Custom Instructions, Memory, five new voices, and improved accents," the company added.

OpenAI says that all the ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Team users will see a notification in the ChatGPT app when they have access to the Advanced Voice Mode. Additionally, the company has confirmed that the feature is not yet available in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein.

OpenAI, while announcing the general availability of its Advanced Voice Mode, also shared the upgrades that it will bring to the feature. The company said that it has improved the overall speed, smoothness and accents in foreign languages.

In addition to this, OpenAI said that it is bringing five new voices to Advanced Voice Mode. With this, ChatGPT app users can pick from a total of nine voices while accessing voice modes. The list includes -- Arbor, Breeze, Cove, Ember, Juniper, Maple, Sol, Spruce and Vale.

The company also said that it is bringing the ability to set custom instructions for the Advanced Voice Mode.

How to start an Advanced Voice conversation in ChatGPT app

Step 1: Download the updated ChatGPT app on your smartphone.

Step 2: Select the voice icon on the bottom-right corner of the screen. This will take users to a screen with a Blue orb in the centre.

From here, users can ask questions to ChatGPT using voice-based prompts. Users can exit this mode by pressing the 'X' icon on the bottom right side or mute themselves by tapping the mic icon on the bottom left corner of the screen.
