Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced as many as seven new services as the government-owned telecom company seeks to bolster its market position ahead of 5G rollout. At the event attended by Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M Scindia, BSNL also unveiled its new logo, “symbolising trust, strength, and nationwide reach.”

The new services include spam-blocking mechanism, Wi-Fi roaming, intranet TV, Any Time SIM (ATS) kiosks, a secure 5G network for the mining industry, a one-time network solution for disaster management, and satellite-to-device connectivity.

“The launch marks the dawn of a transformative era for the service provider, reaffirming its commitment to providing seamless, universal, affordable, and accessible connectivity to all,” Scindia said at the event.

New BSNL services

The spam-blocking mechanism, BSNL said, uses a custom solution to mitigate scams and spam communication in real time – similar to what Airtel launched recently. BSNL claims it is now a spam-free network. The telecom company also announced Wi-Fi roaming, which would allow users on BSNL’s cellular network to connect to any BSNL FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) Wi-Fi network while travelling. As part of the service, FTTH users can now access over 500 premium TV channels using BSNL’s fibre-based intranet live TV service.

Through new ATS kiosks, buying a new BSNL SIM card will be easier through automatic SIM card dispense, KYC authentication, and SIM activation. BSNL is also launching India’s first satellite-to-device connectivity for SMS services, which will work on land, air, and sea. The one-time solution network service will improve disaster management, while a new secure 5G network will help the mining industry establish secure communication.
