Donald Trump calls Sundar Pichai a 'great', 'smart' guy

Donald Trump has labelled Sundar Pichai, the Chief Executive Officer of Alphabet (Google’s parent company), a “great” and “smart” guy in a political rally. Addressing his followers in Pennsylvania, former president and the Republican candidate for the upcoming Presidential Elections in the US said “the head of Google” praised him for what he did with McDonald’s – the world’s largest fast food restaurant chain.

“I actually got a call from Sundar, Sundar, who’s great, from Google, he’s a great guy, very smart. The head of Google. And he said, “Sir I just want to tell you, what you did with McDonald’s was one of the single biggest events we’ve ever had at Google,” Trump said at the campaign rally. Trump visited a McDonald’s outlet in Pennsylvania and served customers as part of his campaign earlier this month.

Trump’s positive comments on Pichai come close on the heels of his criticism of Alphabet’s CEO where he alleged that Google obscured results for people trying to find information on him. In an interview with Bloomberg, the former US president threatened to “do something” about Google without specifying what. He emphasised that how “bad stories” about him surface more on Google.

“Google’s got a lot of power. They’re very bad to me. Very, very bad to me. I can speak from that standpoint,” he told the publication. “They only have bad stories… in other words, if I have 20 good stories and 20 bad stories, and everyone’s entitled to that, you’ll only see the 20 bad stories. I called the head of Google the other day and I said, “I’m getting a lot of good stories lately, but you don’t find them in Google.” I think it’s a whole rigged deal. I think Google’s rigged just like our government’s rigged all over the place,” he added.

Previously, Trump’s running mate JD Vance had called for breaking up Google.
